In the 1980s, Alexander Dmitrievich was leading a youth ministry when God stirred up a vision in his heart for a Sunday School ministry. A third generation pastor in Ukraine, Alexander was passionate about this new endeavour because of the grim reality his country faced: children were not allowed to come to church. So Alexander took a huge risk. He began an underground Sunday School for children.
Soon after, Alexander became the deacon of a large church in the city. This is where his trials began. His daughter's poor decision reflected on Alexander, and he was at once removed from his roles as deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Though he faced hardship, God used this as a season of preparing and refining - one that would ultimately reflect His glory. Alexander was later approached about the desperate needs of a poor village. As a deacon he never would have considered walking into such a ministry, but God led him there to serve by releasing him from his position at the church.
Alexander and the team of missionaries are seeing God plant many seeds in this destitute village. People who once had no faith now know that there is a God who loves them and people who care for them.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28
