Carlos Arrue Chaves believed that he was a good person. He provided for his family, he attended church regularly, and he was an honest man. But when a car accident took the life of his son, Carlos learned that dependency on Jesus – through the good times and the bad – is the only way to live.
Carlos’ son was in a coma after a car accident that happened one day as they were driving to the beach. While their son was in a coma, Carlos and his wife received care and support from the members of the Reto International Church. Missionaries Jose and Esperanza Prada frequently visited their family to pray and read them passages from the Bible.
As they grew in their faith, Carlos and his wife began to understand that God has a purpose for everyone. Before that, they didn’t understand eternal life and they didn’t know what this life was for. Two months after the accident, they gave their son over into God’s hands, and the next day, their son died. At that moment they understood that they needed to leave everything in the hands of the Lord.
Although there will always be times when they miss their son, God gives Carlos and his wife the strength to go on. They used to believe that only people with big problems needed to be close to the Lord, but now they know that they also need to depend on God.
Jesus has given their family real peace and real joy. Before the accident they had religion, and now they have faith. They live by faith, believing God and giving themselves to Him everyday.
