As a child, Maria sometimes saw people who suffered from mental illnesses in downtown Trujillo. It made her sad to see the pain in their eyes.

Maria thought that if she studied to become a doctor then she could help these people and her sadness would go away. She pursued a career in health care and started to work in a clinic.

But as Maria advanced in her career, the pain in her heart also grew and she felt no joy. She was overwhelmed with sadness as she diagnosed patients with AIDS, cancer and other diseases.

One night Maria cried out to God, and afterwards she felt great peace. When she awoke the next morning, Maria felt Jesus’ comforting presence and she accepted Christ two days later.

Now Maria has entrusted her entire life to God, knowing that He is the Doctor of Doctors. She has been able to help her patients spiritually as she has shared the good news of Jesus Christ with them.

“And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.” – Romans 8:11
